Boundaries without the guilt spiral

Saying no is a skill, not a personality trait. A practical framework for setting boundaries that protect your time, energy, and relationships.

Many clients arrive convinced that setting a boundary makes them a bad person. The guilt is real, and it is also the very thing that keeps the old pattern in place.

A boundary is information, not a punishment

Boundaries describe what you will and will not do, not what other people are allowed to feel about it. You are responsible for being clear, kind, and consistent. You are not responsible for managing the disappointment of every person who would prefer you said yes.

Expect the guilt and keep going

  • Decide in advance what your answer will be.
  • Say it once, simply, without over explaining.
  • Let the discomfort be there without negotiating against your own decision.
